Her post addresses the growing trend of wearing tight athletic-style pants for more than just a trip to the gym and what effect those trendy trousers may have on men. Veronica asked her husband if he thought she might be encouraging lustful thoughts in men when she sported tight leggings for purposes other than sports.
Dressed for my morning workout, I glanced down at my own form-fitting yoga pants. I knew the day would get busy, and that a shower and change of clothes might not come until after a trip to the grocery store, post office and my daughter's school. So I asked my husband the same question. "Was it possible my wearing leggings could cause a man, other than my husband, to think lustfully about my body?"
His answer? - It's hard not to look at a girl's back end when her pants are tight or a girl's front when what's covering that is tight too.
As a mom of young children I often read catchy poems or greeting cards about how being a mother is the hardest job in the world. I think it is a challenging and meaningful job. But I think being a man with integrity is harder.
In our culture, sex is used to market every product from sports cars to fast food hamburgers, advertisements for internet pornography invite you to click almost every time you shop online or check your email, and the quest to have "women's equal rights" has become more important than lady-like modesty.
I didn't change pants this morning. After all those are workout clothes, and I was headed to the gym. But I did grab a long cardigan that will complete my outfit when I run those errands.
I decided to join Veronica in her vow, not because I have a vendetta against leggings and certainly not because I think women who wear them are bad, but because I can get behind a movement that reminds me of the power I have as a woman and encourages me to use that power for good.
And most importantly, I am doing it in honor of my husband. By saying to him, "I'm keeping myself for your eyes only," I can honor his self-control, his Godly character and the value he places on our marriage. It's the least I can do for my man, who has one of the hardest jobs in the world.
Promise for Today:
An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. Proverbs 31:9-11
