Tuesday afternoons are busy at the Howell household. From 2pm to 5pm my taxi driving mom-to-do list includes picking up Andrew from preschool, picking up Mackenzie from school, fixing after school snacks, helping Mackenzie with homework, and taxing Mackenzie from tutoring to tap and back home just in time for supper, if I find time to fix it. During that three-hour frenzy yesterday, I read something that stopped me in my tracks.
As Mackenzie tossed her math notebook into the back seat and pulled on her tap shoes, I sped through a light to be sure I made it to the dance studio in the five minutes that separated the end of tutoring and the beginning of tap. My car cruised through a busy intersection, but my eyes froze on a church marquee.

Your mind is like a parachute. It can't work properly unless it's opened.
I can't be sure what the intentions were of the I'm sure well-meaning person who posted that piece of inspiration. But what I'm sure of is that plenty of us who pass by on our way to dancing, the grocery store, school or wherever else may miss the truth for a lie.
The truth is opening our minds to the wrong thing is dangerous. Satan would love for us to have open minds. Why? Because he is a liar. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

Satan's Lie - That's the Old Testament. It doesn't count anymore.
God's Truth - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness 2 Timothy 3:16
Satan's Lie - Loving people means accepting what they do.
God's Truth - And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. 2 Timothy 24-26

If I had a marquee, I think this is the message I would post today because God doesn't want us to open our minds. He wants us to open our eyes!
